In January 2003, Dr. Sekar Raghavan was selected as an Ashoka Fellow by a U.S. based non-profit organization called Ashoka Innovators for the public in appreciation of the efforts made by the Rain Centre to promote rainwater harvesting in Chennai city.
Dr. Sekar Raghavan, the man behind The Rain Centre was selected for the Harmony Silver award 2010, by The Harmony for Silvers Foundation, a non-government organisation founded in 2004 by Tina Anil Ambani. This was for the efforts made by Akash Ganga Trust to popularize and promote Ecological Sanitation in peri-urban and Rural areas of Tamil Nadu since 2005
The project submitted by our Akash Ganga Trust "Promoting Rainwater Harvesting in urban areas and Ecological Sanitation in peri-urban and rural areas" was selected for the "Mahindra's "Spark The Rise Award" by the Jury as their first choice in December 2011. The Trust got the prize money of Rupees Four Lakhs for this project.
Dr. Sekar Raghavan was honoured with the Resource Conservationist Award by the Rotary Club of Chennai Galaxy in a function held on February 18, 2012
